The Definition Of Resistors

A resistor is an important passive current-limiting component. After the resistor is connected to the circuit, the resistance value of the resistor is fixed. Generally, a resistor has two pins, which can limit the current through the branch it is connected to.

Types Of Resistors

Resistors come in different types based on their composition, power rating, tolerance, and temperature coefficient.

1. Wirewound Resistors

Wirewound resistors are made of resistance wire wound and high-resistance alloy wires wound on an insulating frame, and coated with heat-resistant glaze insulating layer or insulating varnish. Wirewound resistors have a low-temperature coefficient, high resistance precision, good stability, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, and are mainly used as precision high-power resistors

2. Carbon Composite Resistors

Carbon composite resistors are made of carbon and synthetic plastics.

3. Carbon Film Resistors

Carbon film resistors are characterized by low cost, stable performance, wide resistance range, low-temperature coefficient, and voltage coefficient. They are currently the most widely used resistors.

4. Metal Film Resistors

Metal film resistors are formed by plating a layer of metal on the porcelain tube. Compared with carbon film resistors, metal film resistors have higher precision, better stability, lower noise, and smaller temperature coefficients. It is widely used in instrumentation and communication equipment.

5. Metal Oxide Film Resistors

Metal oxide film resistors are made by coating a layer of tin oxide on the porcelain pot and depositing a layer of metal oxide on the insulating rod. Since it is an oxide itself, it is stable at high temperatures, resistant to thermal shock, and has a strong load capacity.
